The Inoculated Canaries – ‘Donna’

Back in May – was it really that long ago? – we introduced you to New York quartet The Inoculated Canaries, with their feel-good alt-rock track, ‘Sneakers’. Now they return with ‘Donna’, yet another fine track, sparking testimony to their well-wrought melodies and tight songwriting.

The Inoculated Canaries gives this group of talented musicians a platform by which to express their love for a broad spectrum of artists – as diverse as Steely Dan, Weezer, and Pink Floyd. The four person lineup, comprising Dylan Gross on bass, James Terranova on drums, synth player Brian Sweeney, and Michael Rubin on guitar and vocals, play their music with an energy and urgency that’s impossible to ignore.

‘Donna’ is a pop-rock love song whose verses build up to an instantly sing-a-long chorus. It’s designed for audience interaction, and the video for the song gives the listener an idea of what to expect from their live performances. The Inoculated Canaries are set up to play in front of a factory’s industrial fan, while a co-worker teases each member of the band in turn, before ultimately making her choice. It’s a fun clip, and a fun song, that will have you humming for hours afterwards.
