Carol C – ‘All My Love’

New York City artist Carol C’s music is a paradoxical mix of conflict, empowerment, and optimism. ‘All My Love’ is her first single from her debut solo album, ‘Seven’, co-written with producer Justin Filmer, of Liquid Agents.

Carol C’s music transcends musical genres, taking in dreampop, avant-soul, tropical rhythms, and electronic soundscapes, and ‘All My Love’ is no less a prime example of this. Long a name in the New York scene, it’s hard to believe this is Carol C’s first release under her own name.

‘Seven’ extends the musical ideas, not to mention the cosmopolitan vibes, that she’s built up during her time with Si*Sé, who she’s fronted since forever. It also reflects the playful nature of her DJ sets, and takes a little something from everyone she’s worked with, who include musical heavyweights David Byrne, Thievery Corporation, King Britt, and Nickodemus, among others.

The video for ‘All My Love’ shines back some of the love that Carol C has for New York, who has been very good to her over the years. Directed by Navengate, it’s a deep appreciation of the city, with images that only a long-term resident would think of: sure there’s shots of the Empire State Building, but there’s also the Domino Factory on the East River, Orchard Street on the Lower East Side, and kids playing in the spray of a burst fire hydrant. It pulsates with life, thanks to animator Maryam Parwana.
