THE STARLET’S CUT – Bauhaus Bassist David J Re-Works ‘The Auteur’ In Collaboration With Actor And #MeToo Activist Rose McGowan

Bauhaus and Love and Rockets bassist David J is teaming up with actor Rose McGowan on a new single The Auteur (Redux – The Starlet’s Cut).

First released 17 years ago, David felt to the song had a new resonance in the light of the Harvey Weinstein scandal and the #MeToo movement, which shook the Hollywood movie industry to its foundations.

“The original version of The Auteur was released as part of an EP in 2002, an old song that tells a much older story, but one which in light of the whole #MeToo movement now has an addendum,” he explains.

Rose was Time Magazine‘s Person of the Year, in recognition of her courage in speaking out about sexual assault and harassment in the film industry.

She has since released her own memoir Brave and featured in a four-part documentary series Citizen Rose, focusing on her role in the #MeToo movement.

The actor also received the Inspiration Award at the GQ Men Of The Year Awards in 2018.

“The most vocal proponent of that righteous call for respect and culpability, Rose McGowan, makes a fitting and emotional appearance on this brand new version’s reprise,” David says.

“Rose told me that she related to the lyrics on a very personal level and, because of this, she is also considering recording her own version of the song.”

The digital-only single, serves as a taster for David’s upcoming double album Missive To An Angel From The Halls Of Infamy And Allure, scheduled for release on Glass Modern Records in the Autumn.

  • The Auteur (Redux / The Starlet’s Cut)’ is available across all digital platforms. A two-track version of the single, including the instrumental, can be downloaded exclusively via Glass Modern Records’ Bandcamp.
