Makes My Blood Dance – ‘Beaming Right Up’

Brooklyn’s Makes My Blood Dance have only been together for a year and a half, but already they’ve developed their own distinctive sound, which blends disco, glam, electropop, and metal. Their new single, ‘Beaming Right Up’, sounds as appropriate for the dance club as in a rock and roll bar.

Songwriters Evan Russell Saffer (lead vocals) and John Polimeni (guitars and synthesizer) have come up with a track that is at once menacing and alluring; it’s a hard hitter but is somehow also soft and soothing. The lyrics are delivered by Saffer with a punk sneer and expert showmanship, while the rest of the band, Polimeni, and the rhythm section of Alexander Nikitin (bass) and Carlos “CK1” Guidera (drums) really show what they’re made of.

Produced by Kallie Marie, who has a long hard rock CV, engineered by Paul Ritchie of the Parlor Mob, and mixed by kingmaker David Ogilvie, whose many credits include Skinny Puppy, Rob Zombie, and Marilyn Manson, the resulting sound is over-the-top, filled with drama, and occasionally a little bit rough. And that’s exactly what Makes My Blood Dance are after.

The video clip, directed by Derek Soto, shows the band doing what they do best – performing live, showcasing their style, with enough humorous asides to give any listener what they’ve come for.
