Billboard has hailed Teen Spirit as a “pop purist’s dream” and examined Fanning’s preparation for the role of Violet, a shy teenager who dreams of escaping her small town and pursuing her passion to sing. Violet is aided by an unlikely mentor as she participates in a local singing competition that will test her integrity, talent and ambition.

‘Wildflowers’, performed by Fanning, is a never-before-released original song written by Carly Rae Jepsen and Jack Antonoff, with the official video filmed at New York’s Electric Lady Studios. NYLON praised the track as “a total bop…a synthy pop breakup tune.”

The soundtrack also features Fanning’s interpretations of songs by Ellie Goulding, Annie Lennox, Tegan and Sara and Sigrid, leading PEOPLE to observe, “Elle Fanning is channeling all of your favorite pop stars.” Rolling Stone praised her “powerful rendition” of Robyn’s ‘Dancing On My Own’, which can be heard in this clip:

The original versions of No Doubt’s ‘Just A Girl’, Grimes’ ‘Genesis’, and Major Lazer’s ‘Lean On’ feat. DJ Snake & MØ, are also included on the album.
