Suspending Gravity: Multi-Platinum Selling Canadians MARIANAS TRENCH Announce European And UK Tour

In our recent interview with Marinas Trench lead singer, Josh Ramsay, we asked when they were coming back to the UK. Josh didn’t give into our pleading for a scoop, but did reveal to us that a UK tour had indeed been booked, but we’d have to wait for the official announcement.

Well here it is!

Marianas Trench will bring their Suspending Gravity tour to the UK in November, starting in Newcastle, at Riverside, on the 6th. They will wend their way around the country for 8 dates, taking in Manchester, Bath, Sheffield, Birmingham, Glasgow, London, and Brighton, before moving on to Europe, where they’ll play Melkweg in Amsterdam on November 18, followed by 4 German dates – in Hamburg, Frankfurt, Munich, and Cologne.

Tickets – both general admission and VIP, go on sale 9am (UK time) on May 1.

Visit Marianas Trench’s official website for additional information and tickets.

“Europe! The Suspending Gravity Tour is coming to you! We’re unbelievably excited to be back this November. Grab your best masquerade mask, a box of croissants for Matt, and come scream your facehole off with us. We can’t wait to see you!” says lead guitarist Matt Webb.

The thirteen date tour will feature the signature high energy performance of the Vancouver quartet, who will showcase songs from their brand new album, ‘Phantoms’, in addition to tracks from their previous releases. Released digitally back in March, ‘Phantoms’ is now also available in Europe in CD and LP formats.

The first release from ‘Phantoms’ was ‘I Knew You When’, a bouncy track which set the tone for the album, reflecting the overall theme of coping with memories of past relationships, as Josh Ramsay explains:

“I wanted to set an album from the perspective of someone descending into madness as he inhabits a house haunted by the ghost of his former love. I looked to Edgar Allan Poe for inspiration. Strangely the date he was rushed to hospital preceding his death was October 3rd, the same day our first album was released, and the same date I was once to be married. Even more strangely, we finished the album on January 19th, his birthday. I’m not one for superstition, but that does feel oddly serendipitous.”

As Josh said to us in our interview when we asked about the concept of the haunted house, and how he came up with the idea:

I like the idea of being haunted as a nice, fairly simple straight forward metaphor for love lost, and missing someone and stuff like that. That’s really that I’ve been thinking about, because that’s what I’ve been going through. And then when we were touring for our last album, we had a day off New Orleans, and I went walking around in this city that’s *steeped* in voodoo and death culture, and stuff and I really got into it, and lo and behold, the theme presented itself.

So essentially you’re saying that we are houses, haunted by things, loves lost, haunted by memories, overthinking…

Yeah! But to me, one of the things I took away from New Orleans’ culture was that they don’t view that stuff as scary, nor do they view that stuff as negative, they like to look at it as celebrations of life, so to me, the ghost of someone you’re missing, that can be something painful, but it can also be something hopeful, like wanting to see them, or hoping to run into them.

Consistently raising the musical bar both in the studio and in their explosive live performances, Marianas Trench have built their name on touring consistently across North America, as well as headline shows in the UK, mainland Europe, Australia, and New Zealand.

Marianas Trench released their debut album, ‘Fix Me’, back in 2006, and since then have had two double platinum selling records in their home country of Canada, ‘Masterpiece Theatre’, and ‘Ever After’. Additionally, they have had two gold selling albums, including the hit singles, ‘Rhythm Of Your Heart’, ‘Haven’t Had Enough’, and ‘Who Do You Love’. They have had platinum and gold singles, and have also won multiple SOCAN and MMVA awards, been nominated for Juno Awards, and in 2013, won the Juno Award for Group Of The Year. Josh Ramsay also picked up a Grammy Award nomination in 2013 for his part in co-writing and producing Carly Rae Jepsen’s worldwide smash, ‘Call Me Maybe’, which was recently honoured at the SOCAN Awards as the most performed song to come out of Canada in the past 30 years.

‘Phantoms’ is out now and can be bought on CD, streamed, and downloaded here. Find Marianas Trench online on their official website, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and VEVO
