Mabes Is ‘Free’ With Release Of First Single Today

23 year old Mabes is Billericay’s answer to Kasey Musgraves, and with any luck she will see her singing career take similar flight. Mabes has been working for a construction company in Holborn by day, while writing and performing her songs in Essex pubs by night.

The artist has worked with producer Hugh Worskett, best known for his work with Birdy, and Michael Kiwanuka, and is now ready to share her first track, ‘Free’, released today, April 9. It’s the first of three singles from her debut EP.

With the construction job put on the backburner part time, Mabes has collaborated with James Earp (known for his work with Louis Capaldi) and Dan McDougal, who’s worked with Bruno Major. She’s also caught the eye of Grammy winning producer and songwriter, Rick Nowels, who has seen his songs recorded by the likes of Lana Del Rey, and also worked with Adele, Kesha, Marina, Lykke Li, Jamie xx, Brandon Flowers, and Madonna – among others.

‘Free’ combines laid-back pitch-perfect vocals with a light guitar accompaniment. Mabes’ voice allows the slightest touch of her Essex accent to come through, adding to the relaxed feel of the track. There’s a richness and confidence to her singing, which only adds to our feeling that Mabes is destined for bigger things. Today Billericay, tomorrow the world. In the meantime, keep an eye and ear open on for Mabes on her SoundCloud and Facebook.
