Dax Brooks – ‘Only Human’

Dax Brooks has an amazing voice which radiates empathy and is a perfect conductor of tales of heartache and deliverance. His latest single, ‘Only Human’, comes with a beautifully shot video, which the modern soul singer has directed himself.

Taking his camera and turning it onto the faces of ordinary New Yorkers, Dax Brooks highlights in his black and white video the struggles experienced daily by everyone. Breakups, loneliness, dissension, and brutal, hard work, is all part of the day to day life of people everywhere. Dax’s compassion for his subjects is evident in every frame, and it’s easy to become swept up in the artistry of the clip.

It’s not just the video which will tug at your emotions: Dax Brooks’ voice is gorgeously stirring, a born storyteller, with soulful hooks. The ‘Only Human’ EP, of which this is the title track, was recorded at the Bomb Shelter studio, in East Nashville, with the resourceful Andrija Tokix, who has been praised for his work with Alabama Shakes. It was mixed by Jason Schweitzer, who’s known as a specialist in modern soul and has worked with the likes of Macy Gray, among others, and mastered by Che Brooks, Dax’s brother, who played alongside him in his first band, The Questions.
