Matt Simons – ‘Open Up’

Brooklyn-based multi-instrumentalist Matt Simons returns with surefire summer anthem ‘Open-Up’, ahead of his third LP.

The lead track from highly anticipated ‘After the Landslide’ sets a strong precedent on which to release the album. With strong tropical vibes and catchy guitar hooks complimenting each other well, close your eyes and you’re on a sun-drenched beach in the south of Spain.

Almost enough to forget it’s February.

Lyrically however, the track is basic chart procedure; vague and unmemorable, which is a shame as this album is written retrospectively and draws on his past experiences, so we would hope for something perhaps with more depth.

Matt explores many themes on the upcoming album including a quarter-life crisis, starting over after a break-up and how ‘blowing up your life’ may just be the answer.

Supporting Ed Sheeran and with a European tour on the way, Matt has an exciting year ahead of him, and if ‘Open-Up’ is anything to go by, a fruitful one too.

You can find out more about Matt online on his official website, Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube. You can pre-order ‘After The Landslide’ here, and stream ‘Open Up’ here.
