Aftermath – ‘Diethanasia’

Thrash metal group Aftermath have been navigating the ever-changing music landscape for over 30 years. Since their inception in 1985 they’ve always done things their own way, and have outlasted labels, other artists, and their critics. Their fans however have remained true to them, and and are sure to love the band’s latest single, ‘Diethanasia’.

Aftermath have certainly had their battles over the years, including a label folding while they were in the middle of recording, and a legal battle with Interscope and Dr Dre over the name Aftermath. But still they persevered, and with their latest album, ‘There Is Something Wrong’, Aftermath blend social commentary, their top of the class technical skills, and their signature thrash sound.

‘Diethanasia’ comes with a video clip that fully matches the fury of the song. Set in a darkened room with the barest minimum of spots showing each member in a fogged out soundstage, the video is a series of quick cuts and muscular riffs, with director Davo creating a powerfully compelling visual experience.

Lyrically it’s also compelling: lead singer Kyriakos “Charlie” Tsiolis spits out a stream of consciousness commenary about big pharma, big tech, and the games they’re playing wiht our lives. Aftermath are able with their music and lyrics to convey to the world the necessity to wake up to what’s going on in the world – it’s no wonder they’ve lasted as long as they have.
