‘Splurge’ is the latest track from multi-national collaboration, Urban Fu$e. We first wrote about them back in October last year, with their song, ‘Can’t Steal My Deal‘.
‘Splurge’ is an electronic-based hip hop track, which talks about how the modern world suggests that we need to have the best of everything, but doesn’t explain about the hard work that has to go into it to get it. Our senses are assaulted everywhere we look: on TV, radio, print, other media, and online, everyone wanting us to spend spend spend, with not thought to how we should get the money for it. ‘Splurge’ is accompanied by a somewhat humorous music video, outlining the disparity between the luxurious life we’re after and the effort it takes to get there.
It’s an empowering song which works well combined with the simple instrumentals underlying the female only vocals. We’re reminded of the girlpower tracks of Little Mix, and Kesha, other strong women who are all about “sisters doing it for ourselves”. ‘Splurge’ is a catchy song which will have you hitting repeat more than once.
Urban Fu$e come from all over the world, with a diverse range of cultures, and a wide view on how they approach music. The eight member group, which has members in Abuja in Nigeria, Nassau in the Bahamas, Nashville Tennessee, and San Francisco, California in the US, and London, England, represent musical styles including hip-hop/rap, dance hall, V-pop, and Latin: what unites them is a strong dance beat, which is the hallmark of Urban Fu$e, no matter what genre.
Urban Fu$e chose the name not only because of the multicultural nature of their members and their music, but also because they consider themselves to be fuses; the spark for the musical revolution to come.
