T-Pain ft. Tory Lanez – ‘Getcha Roll On’

When you mention T-Pain, what do you think of? I think of his vocal effects, the imaginative, otherworldly sounds which he’s incorporated into his songs. Many have copied, but at the end of the day, T-Pain is the OG of voice processing, and his experimentation always kept him at the front of the barrier.

As well as his pioneering techniques, T-Pain is a top flight producer, beat-maker, and hip hop artist; when it comes down to it, if he didn’t have the talent, the vocal sounds wouldn’t sound nearly as good as they do. His new track, ‘Getcha Roll On’, is the latest single from ‘1UP’, his seventh album. If you’re expecting it to be filled with all his voice processing style, then you’re in for a surprise: he uses these techniques sparingly, and instead, demonstrates that he can be a forceful, exciting, and powerful singer, even when he’s not enhancing his voice.

Over his two-decade career, T-Pain has worked with just about everyone in hip-hop. Names like DJ Khaled, Lil Wayne, Kanye West, Rick Ross, Snoop Dogg, and more, have all benefited from the T-Pain treatment. On ‘Getcha Roll On’, we see T-Pain working with one of the most exciting young voices in modern pop, Toronto R&B singer Tory Lanez, who was making waves in the Top 40 last year with his singles ‘Say It’, ‘Luv’, and ‘Talk To Me’.

The video for ‘Getcha Roll On’ was shot by Edgar Esteves, who’s worked with many different artists in a wide variety of genres, including rock, country, and mainstream pop. Hip hop however is Esteves’ speciality, and with ‘Getcha Roll On’, he has created a near fantasy world of cars, clubs, and beautiful people, all while T-Pain and Tony Lanez rap and sing in a car park, with cars screeching around them.

He uses exhaust fumes to good effect, and the lighting in the clip contrasts well with the Dayglo clothing of the people in the clip, the flashing of the fast cars. It’s a fast-paced, fun, and overall very catchy song that’ll be resonating in your head long after it’s finished.
