Guitar Legend Adrian Belew Announces Reinvented Live Show With New Quartet

The legendary Adrian Belew has certainly travelled around the musical map. A multi-instrumentalist whose solo records have been critically acclaimed, he’s also noted for his moving singing voice, and prolific songwriting, all of which has endeared him to a loyal fanbase of music lovers. His music is daily discovered by more and more listeners, and indeed, we discovered him through his work with David Bowie, and the Celebrating David Bowie concerts, one of which we were privileged to attend last year, at the O2 Shepherd’s Bush.

The Adrian Belew Power Trio has likewise stunned audiences all over the globe, and now Adrian is about to reinvent his live show, with a new quartet. Comprising Jordan Perlson on drums, Saul Zonana on keys, guitar, and vocals, and bassist Julie Slick, they are set to tour in support of Adrian’s latest album, which is set for release in March this year.

Adrian describes the show as,

“a more complete picture of most things I’ve done. More songs, new songs from the award-winning FLUX app, King Crimson material I haven’t played for years, and a dose of classic Power Trio. It’s my intention to make this the best Adrian Belew show ever!”

Adrian first broke into the guitar scene when he toured with Frank Zappa, who later said, “Adrian reinvented electric guitar”. His signature tones, a unique use of effects and whammy bar sets him apart even still, and his techniques remain a huge influence on guitarists today. He was guitarist, songwriter, and frontman for King Crimson, staying at the helm of the prog rock powerhouse for over 30 years, with ‘Discipline’, his first album with King Crimson, listed amongst the most important rock records ever made.

Adrian’s career commands both awe and respect from both fellow musicians and loyal fans, starting with his first solo record, ‘The Lone Rhino’, right up to the Atlantic Records hit, ‘Mr Music Head’. You could equally reference any of his other 20 or more solo records: they all push sonic boundaries, while maintaining artistic integrity. Additionally, he’s taken his fans on a wild ride by way of countless world tours, as well as albums with the likes of the aforementioned Bowie, plus also Talking Heads, Laurie Anderson, and Paul Simon.

  1. Thanks for sharing! Always heard of Adrian Belew but never took a listen to his playing. As non-professional guitar player I can just marvel at what he’s doing. His voice is very nice! I do believe I might go CD shopping this weekend.

    1. Yes!! We had the privilege of seeing him perform this time last year as part of his “Celebrating David Bowie” ensemble, and knew him for a consumate guitarist, but like you, were surprised by how good his voice is! Have fun with the CD shopping!
