Melanie Taylor – ‘Adderall’

Los Angeles based singer songwriter Melanie Taylor mixes electro pop elements into her 90s influenced style, and proves that the best thing you can ever be in life is yourself. Her unique approach to her songwriting, which gains inspiration from the likes of Michael Jackson, conveys an authenticity that listeners gravitate towards.

Melanie was an only child, raised by a single working mother, and found comfort in classic pop by artists such as Mariah Carey, and Alanis Morissette, which shone a light on the possibilities of what she could achieve. She discovered the theatre, and found a family there, and even now she treats her audience as though they were her brothers and sisters. Melanie started on her musical journey in 2012 with the release of her debut record, ‘All About Today’, followed in 2016 by her self-titled album. Most recently she’s written the songs, ‘Ink’, and ‘Adderall’, as she comes to terms with a need for commitment (in ‘Ink’), and release (‘Adderall’).

The video sees Melanie on the streets of Hollywood, with quickly transitioning shots of her draped in white, while her internal discourse becomes overbearing, resulting in her actions becoming erratic. She screams to God, begging for answers, which come in the form of interpretive dance. She watches from the back of an empty theatre, and hits her own rock bottom. Melanie breaks the cycle of self-destruction by becoming aware of the hurtful relationship she’s in, ending the abusive situation, and effectively portraying the drug leaving the addict.
