Ambient RnB Producer JDA Announces Her Third Single, ‘Sublime’

Originally from Surrey but now based in London, JDA is a DIY artist in every sense of the word, and her third and most recent single, ‘Sublime’ comes with her debut music video. Having radio play on both BBC Introducing and Reprezent Radio for her previous tracks, she certainly looks set to repeat the same with ‘Sublime’.

JDA writes, produces, and records all her own material, with ‘Sublime’ starting as one of her beats. JDA always envisioned it as being suited to a rapper, but the track stuck in her mind, so she got down to the business of writing words to go with it. Within five minutes she had it down, taking her inspiration from the SZA track, ‘The Weekend’, but written about a situation, rather than a person.

JDAs sound takes its influence from UK trip-hop, RnB, and soul, as well as artists such as Kali Uchis, Mahalia, and Jaz Karis. JDA takes a minimalist production route, and in effect, proving that less is more. ‘Sublime’ is more than just a heartbreak song, but with its dreamlike vibe, echoed in the lo-fi style visuals, it’s both striking and unusual. The clip was recorded by a friend on VHS tape in JDAs bedroom, with the singer editing it herself.

‘Sublime’ features a vocal by Hayche Griiim, and has seen support from the likes of Wordplay, and ‘Conversations About Her‘, among others.

You can find JDA online on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook.
