SPiN – ‘What’s It Gonna Take’

Based in Philadelphia, rock band SPiN have raised their presence through touring, syncing their songs to TV and film, radio play, and a social media presence of over 30,000 fans. Their video for ‘Zombie Girl’ also went viral, garnering over 8 million views so far. Their latest track, ‘What’s It Gonna Take’, the first release from their new album, ‘Make Me Move’, comes with a kick-ass video directed by Jim Vacca and shot in their hometown of Philadelphia.

SPiN combines the sound of alternative rock with pop elements, with a vibe reminding one of classic acts such as Queen and The Cars, mixed in with the likes of Muse and Fall Out Boy. With new album ‘Make Me Move’, released on 31 August, they’ve updated their signature sound, adding a pop spin.

SPiN had frequent visits from Philadelphia’s finest even during the early writing process for the new album, who issued them with fines and eventually shut them down after numerous noise complaints from a neighbour to their 150 year old former funeral home, which serves as their recording studio. To get around the legal issues, SPiN optimised their creativity, and relied on the less familiar (to them) sounds of electronic drums and synths, and took a different approach to songwriting and a more pop-friendly production.

The video for ‘What’s It Gonna Take’ should do for the City Of Brotherly Love what Pharrell Williams’ ‘Happy‘, and ‘Can’t Stop The Feeling‘ by Justin Timberlake did for Los Angeles, with shots of locals doing their thing while SPiN sing and play. it’s a feel-good tune with a great sound, and to keep up the positivity, there’s a blooper reel at the end.
