Emmy Law – ‘Fairyland’

Based in Atlanta, Georgia, Emmy Law has always been into music. She started playing piano at the age of eight, began writing her own songs in college, where she majored in music education, and is now ready to show off her musical prowess on her debut EP, ‘Fairyland’.

Emmy has a folky style, and has built up a reputation locally as a prestigious singer-songwritier, performing in some of Atlanta’s top venues, inlcuding Eddie’s Attic, The Red Clay Music Foundry, and The Music Room, which is located upstairs at Smith’s Olde Bar. Emmy has also made a name for herself in Atlanta’s open mic scene, where she’s found her way to the final round in 3 of the city’s top open mic competitions. A music teacher, she’s launching her solo career and released her debut EP, ‘Fairyland’, this time last year.

The video for the title track is a trip with no point of return. Directed by Zak Washburn, it’s been shot with a vintage camera, calling Emmy back to her memories of an idealised relationship. Compared to fairy tales, Emmy’s delusion isn’t just a short story, but rather her entire reality is altered, and we see the progress of the souring of Emmy’s loving relationship, as if it were a documentary. Gradually we see that the vacation gone wrong is actually a distant memory, covered with deceitful nostalgia.

The video is like a flipbook, as Emmy sings, “Take a picture and save it”. The clip closes with the camera still rolling, and her fate is left unexplained…and unfinished. Like all stories, we’re left to our imaginations as to what happens next.
