Tancred – ‘Something Else’

We’re so happy to hear new music from Tancred – we totally fell in love with Jess Abbott’s sound with ‘Out of the Garden‘ back in 2016. Now she’s back with her single, ‘Something Else’, from her most recent album, ‘Nightstand’.

Originally with powerhouse girl band Now, Jess Abbott has redefined her role apart from the group, and takes on issues of the women’s movement, with her Kate Nash vibes. Her music carries a feel of the early 2000s, complete with fuzzy synths and slowed down vocals.Signed to Polyvinyl Records, Abbott uses captivating lyrical imagery which transfers perfectly to her videos.

The video for ‘Something Else’, directed by Jason Lester, gives a gay twist to the popular Netflix series, ‘Riverdale‘. Local band Potty Mouth are on stage, while Tancred is shown on a date with her girlfriend, portrayed by comedian and actor Brittany Ashley. aka America’s Lesbian Sweetheart. It’s a pleasing eradication of the traditional social norms: with cheerleaders, and transitioning of outfits between “feminine” and “masculine”, Tancred effectively gives inspiration to those young girls who are finding their way in the world, it’s okay to be who we are and who we want to be.

Check out Tancred online on Instagram, Facebook, and her official website.
