runabay – ‘Blink Of An Eye’

It feels as though it’s been the blink of an eye since we’ve written about Northern Irish band runabay, but we actually last featured them in November 2016. The six-piece band from the Glens Of Antrim are back however with theire new single, ‘Blink Of An Eye’, a remove from their previous sound, but nonetheless one we’re enjoying.

Accompanied by a video, which characteristically for runabay is somewhat dark and foreboding, while shot in gorgeous surroundings, the song is reminiscent of the classic Prog Rock sounds of the likes of Peter Gabriel’s Genesis and early Fleetwood Mac. The track is mostly strings-oriented, with strong drums and percussion otherwise punctuating it. The vocals are gentle and closely harmonising, and the overall effect is one of sadness, particularly in conjunction with the video.

‘Blink Of An Eye’ is receiving some great media coverage, both print and radio, and most notably was featured as ‘Track Of The Day‘ by Irish music Bible, Hot Press Magazine, whose writer Kevin Worrall described it thus:

The instrumentation is haunting, yet uncovers a beauty that can hide within the most darkest of times. The lyrics are strong and honest, taking the listener on a journey. A perfect track for chilling out and self-reflection, ‘Blink of an Eye’ is raw, simple and immaculate.

You can catch runabay live at Moira Calling, on September 8. See here for tickets and further information. Check out runabay online on their official website, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and Soundcloud.
