blackbear Releases New Single ‘the 1’ And Premieres Video

blackbear’s latest single, ‘the 1’, released via Beartrap/Alamo/Interscope Records, has been featured as Zane Lowe’s World Record, on Apple Music’s Beats 1. It’s now available via all digital retailers.

Written and produced by blackbear, real name Matthew Musto, and Andrew Goldstein, known for his work with Linkin Park, The Ready Set, and Louis The Child, ‘the 1’ is his first single since his album ‘cybersex’ was released last November. A moody blend of R&B and electronic pop, ‘the 1’ showcases perfectly blackbear’s gift for crafting infectious melodies coupled with strikingly honest lyrics.

Speaking of his new single, blackbear says,

“the 1 is a new more mature feel, a clear headed track about past relationships and inspired by ongoing changes in my personal life – the common everyday simple struggle of drugs and alcohol ruining everything. Rest assured teenage tumblr hearts will feel this one.”

The single has been released accompanied by a video, directed by Alexandra Gavillet, an LA/New York City based photographer and filmmaker, who’s previously worked with Mitch, Jonas Blue, and Lewis Capaldi. Building off the song’s raw emotion and stark confession, the video brilliantly contrasts its flashes justify bold color with a dark and dreamlike mystique.

blackbear performed at Lollapalooza earlier this month, as well as playing a sold-out show at House Of Blues, Chicago, in the same week. He’s now set to play Life Is Beautiful Festival in Las Vegas on September 23, and will follow it up with a headline performance at Red Rocks Amphitheatre, in Colorado, on 19 October.
