Beartooth – ‘Disease’

Based in Columbus Ohio, rock band Beartooth are set to release their third studio album, ‘Disease’. It’s a stark look inwards, and the next chapter in the chronicle of frontman Caleb Shomo’s battle with his inner demons. ‘Disease’ will be out on 28 September, but is available to pre-order now via the band’s website, where fans can also order limited and exclusive ‘Disease’ vinyl and merch bundles.

The album is a riff-driven look at depression. The music, albeit with moments of positivity, is nonetheless ultimately about survival. Shomo’s battle with mental illness and childhood issues returned despite playing to sold-out audiences across Europe, and he’s taken that pain and turned it into ‘Disease’. The title song was the first to be written for the album, thereby setting the overall tone.

Shomo recorded vocals, guitar, bass, and drums, and then mixed the album by himself with help from executive producer and Grammy winner Nick Raskulinecz – famed for his work with Foo Fighters, and Rush –  as engineer. The album took Shomo out of his comfort zone, as after the songs were written, as usual, in his basement, he recorded it in Nashville, at the famous Blackbird studio, which has seen the birth of work from artists such as Alice In Chains, Taylor Swift, and Greta Van Fleet.
The video for ‘Disease’ is dark and sobering, with paint dripping bloodlike, and Shomo laying on the floor, alternating with scenes of him and the band performing for all they’re worth.
