Robert O’Connor – ‘No Second Chances’

Robert O’Connor is back again with his new single, ‘No Second Chances’.

We reviewed Robert’s previous release, ‘You Found Me‘ back in March, the first release for the Dublin singer/songwriter since his 2013 EP, ‘Reincarnated’. The previous release was an uptempo rock piece with a country edge – now Robert has plunged headlong and ditched the rock for a full on country sound – or in his words, “Nearly Nashville”.

‘No Second Chances’ was written four years ago, while Robert was taking a break from music. He worked as a journalist for several years, until the website he was writing for folded. He then took a job as a security guard, working at various venues in Dublin. The experience proved to be a valuable resource for his songwriting.

“I’ve always been a creature of the night, and I met some of the most interesting characters during my year working in nightlife”.

‘No Second Chances’ premiered on Irish radio station, LMFM, and is seeing airplay around the country. The song proved part of the motivation behind Robert’s decision to get back into music: it was the thought of it never being heard outside his own head that motivated him to attempt a comeback. The song, which was written from ideas O’Connor had recorded on his iPhone, is a song of uncertainty. Robert says,

“Uncertainty bubbles beneath the surface throughout the song, in the verses I’m saying I’m ready to walk out on a relationship, in the chorus I’m remembering that the other person said they never give second chances, and then by the mid 8 I’m asking them to change their mind, or is it them asking me? I think it’s about how sometimes it’s easier to not make a decision at all than make one you might regret – and I think we’ve all been guilty of that.”

‘No Second Chances’ was produced by Stuart Gray and Steve Hogan, at Jealoustown Studios, County Meath, Ireland. The studio is famous for working with the likes of Hozier, Rainey Qualley, Ryan Sheridan, and Damien Dempsey.

‘No Second Chances’ will be released worldwide on August 17. You can find out more about Robert O’Connor online on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and Soundcloud, as well as his official website.
