Jean-Luc Godard’s New Film ‘The Image Book’ Acquired by MUBI

MUBI have acquired Jean-Luc Godard’s ‘The Image Book’ For Theatrical and Streaming Release in the UK.

Marxist, new-wave film director, Jean-Luc Godard’s newest release is set for UK distribution by the hand-curated streaming and download service MUBI. ‘The Image Book’ is a film essay, examining world history and its portrayal in cinema.

Godard’s influential style and prolific filmmaking have influenced many in mainstream cinema. Godard can count the likes of Tarantino, Scorsese, De Palma and DA Pennebaker as devotees and fans. His innate approach to subject matter has inspired and shaken cinema in equal measure. In 1968, Godard led an uprising that shut down the Cannes Film Festival. At the ripe age of 87, he’s no less forgiving in his approach.

He once described himself, and colleagues, as “Barging into cinema like cavemen at the Versailles.”

‘The Image Book’ is Godard’s 45th feature film and shows no sign of his age or waning energy towards the art.

As he has aged, his political views have become less extreme, but that doesn’t mean he can’t sharpen his social and political teeth when he wants to.

Produced by Fabrice Aragno and Mitra Farahani ‘The Image Book’ is released in conjunction with Wild Bunch Films.

    1. Thanks Max! Have to admit that we relied on the press release we’d received rather than doing our own research. That offending sentence has now magically *disappeared* haha! Thank you for reading EP!
