Essentially Pop Meets: Rofi James Ahead Of #IrishMusicParty Showcase

Lisa recently had the opportunity to attend the first ever #IrishMusicParty Showcase, held at Dublin’s famous Workmans Club. Before the show she spoke to the artists performing.

Rofi James are a pop/rock band from Galway City, on Ireland’s west coast. There’s been a long tradition of great musicians coming from Galway, and an equally long tradition of Galway artists making the trip to Dublin, which on the map of Ireland is pretty much a straight line eastwards across the country.

Rofi James (pronounced “row-fee” James) combines the names of band founders Rónán and Jamie, who started thinking about forming a group while still in secondary school. They started finding their feet on the busking circuit of Galway’s famous Shop Street, before moving into (often much warmer) venues and taking first place titles at the likes of the Nuig Witless Battle Of The Bands in 2013. From there they moved on to gigs supporting artists such as Original Rude Boys, Mundy, The Amazing Apples, and Ham Sandwich, among many more. They entered iRadio’s natiional battle of the bands comp, and won first place in their iRocks battle of the bands champions 2013.

Now a fourpiece (but at times a trio and a fivepiece) band, the past 12 months have been eventful for Rofi James, and has seen the success of their debut singles, ‘Fool For Your Love’, ‘Open Eyes’, and ‘Reason’, as well as several high profile support slots with the likes of Picture This, and Ryan Sheridan. They also played two major headline shows at The Loft Venue, Galway, as well as a performance to over a thousand festival goers at Moxegen 2017.

We’ll talk more about Rofi James in the review of the #IrishMusicParty showcase, but in the meantime, enjoy their chat with Lisa:
