With an album that runs the gamut from blues to gospel to rock, Arkansas Dave pulls no punches with his debut album. Set for release on 20 April through BIG Indie Records, ‘Arkansas Dave’ is 13 tracks of hard hitting songs.

‘Arkansas Dave’ was recoreded over a period of eight days at Fame Studios, with the help of The Swampers, aka The Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section – Will McFarlane, Clayton Ivey, and Bob Wray, and produced by Jamie “Gypsy” Evans, and Dave himself. The album also features horn arrangements by Charles Rose, and Jim Horn. Vocals were completed at Arlyn Studios, in Austin, where Dave is based.

Looking every bit like an old time outlaw (Dave even shares his name with a George Strait song based loosely on the life and death of outlaw Dave Rudabaugh), Dave Pennington was born and raised in south Arkansas and grew up on a diet of blues and rock’n’roll, cutting his music chops in dive bars and honky tonks in his home state and in Texas, where he was given his nickname.

A self taught multi-instrumentalist, Dave’s music is an original blend of blues, gospel and rock and roll, combined with the sound of the deep South. Our favourite song was ‘The Wheel’, which reminded us a bit of Led Zeppelin’s ‘Stairway To Heaven’. It’s got a clean laidback sound, with expert instrumentation and a heartfelt message of living your best you:

“No matter where life takes you

always know your worth will follow where you go

so care for one another

and always let your love, let it show”
