The Aces – ‘Volcanic Love’

Describing themselves as “4 girls from lil old Orem, Utah“, The Aces erupt into 2018 with their new song, ‘Volcanic Love’. The track is from their debut album, ‘When My Heart Felt Volcanic’, which is set for release on April 6.

The Aces spent 2017 on the road, with performances including a sold out headline show at The Mercury Lounge in New York City, and sharing the stage with the likes of Joywave and Portugal. The Man. Their single, ‘Stuck’ found them in the Top 40 on the Alternative Radio Charts, as well as featured as Billboard’s Chart Breaker artist, and a Billboard 2018 Artist to Watch. Their new single, ‘Volcanic Love’ is a welcome reminder of what summertime feels like, with its 80s inspired guitar and lush and enveloping melodies.

Calling to mind the likes of ‘Manic Monday’ by The Bangles and other songs from that era (the first few bars also remind us of ‘Girls Just Wanna Have Fun’ by Cyndi Lauper), ‘Volcanic Love’ is The Aces’ love story, with music video co-directed by Nico Poalillo and the band’s durmmer Alisa Ramirez. It references all the best of the 80s and 90s teen films, such as ‘Heathers’ and ‘Mean Girls’ while eliciting classic love stories such as ‘The Great Gatsby’. The theme of the song ‘Volcanic Love’ focuses on those romances which although toxic, continue to burn with passion, in spite of resistance from all sides.
The song is reminiscent of the above-mentioned ‘Manic Monday’ but the close harmonies also make us think of Wilson Phillips – there’s a really strong 80s vibe about the entre song which we enjoyed very much.
