IBRU – ‘My Life’

Reggae/dance fusion artist Ibru was raised on the remote Bahamian island of South Andros, and is fully committed to making inspirational and culturally conscious music and spreading it far and wide. Now living in Jamaica, Ibru’s new single, ‘My Life’, documents his life story with an upbeat track and a raw, and vibrant video.

Ibru rose like a phoenix from various phases in his life, moved to Florida, served with the US military in Iraq, and then moved to Jamaica. He first started in music in 2011 with his debut single, ‘Stand’, and a challenge to his fans to stand up for what they believe in. Latest single, ‘My Life’, takes him to a wider audience, with the lyrics serving as an autobiography. The song presents him with a more mature and confident tone, as he proudly wears the hardships on his sleeve of his early life. Ibru has spent nights without power, and days without water, and yet he shares with his listeners that hard work and a positive attitude goes a very long way to making dreams a reality.

The video for ‘My Life’ was shot in the less touristy parts of Jamaica, and highlights the communities who are living much the same way as the one he was raised in. People living the same life he grew up in are on the one hand eye-opening, but on the other we see people getting on with life in the best way they can. The compelling music video was made with the help of video producer Christopher Campbell and Icey Jace Film Factory, and both inspires and enlightens with a simple, but very honest message that quality of life isn’t all about possessions.
