Those Damn Eyes – ‘Give and Take’

Those Damn Eyes, from Austin, Texas, have released their lastest single, ‘Give And Take’. They took the scene by storm with their debut EP, ‘Glass Crash’, released in 2016, whose addictive hooks and heavy tones made for an epic first impression.

‘Give And Take’ marks a signpost in the band’s life, with new frontwoman Meredith Williams making her powerful debut. The video opens with Williams sending a voicemail to her lover, letting him know that she’s aware he’s not been loyal.

“Hey, I’ve been trying to get a hold of you for days.  You’re with that girl, aren’t you? That’s cool, we’re gonna see who has the last laugh.”

Her henchmen go to his house, bag him up and take him to Those Damn Eyes’ HQ, where they deal with him. The video encapsulates his crippling fear and we realise Williams is not one to mess with, as she celebrates her victory by taking selfies with her hapless ex-lover. Meredith Williams’ vengeful lyrics and the strong guitar and dramatic rhythm section undercut the overall sweet sound of Those Damn Eyes, who remind us of classic rock band Heart. The track demonstrates a commendable maturity for this band, and sets them up as an act to watch in 2018.
