Sunny Mac Is On A Celestial Swing Ahead Of New Album Release ‘Rabbit Whole’ This Summer

Canadian rap/hip hop artist, songwriter and producer Sunny Mac is from Toronto, Canada, and is set to release his album, ‘Rabbit Whole’, in early 2018.

With jazz-influenced melodies inspired by the likes of Frank Ocean, Kid Cudi, Eminem, and Kenrick Lamar, Sunny’s music is more than just hip hop. His flow is fast and furious, reminiscent of Will Smith, backed by a rhythmic instrumental track.

Sunny Mac started out by releasing tracks on Soundcloud, before branching out onto all major streaming platforms, including Apple Music, and Spotify. His debut EP, ‘Celestial Swing’, was released in late November 2016, comprised 8 tracks, and was written from the first poems written by Sunny and was also recorded, mixed and mastered by him. There’s a potent message as well:

“Our mental health, regardless of gender, is vital and fragile, and it is important for those of us who need help to seek help. In my own struggle, I have found many ways to cope with the help of close friends and professionals, yet have never truly felt at peace with myself. Recently I discovered a passion in writing music and poetry, and in doing so have found an outlet in which to express myself in ways I was never able to before, turning bouts of depression into waves of expression. Though it is always an ongoing battle, I urge those in need of guidance to search for a passion you have yet to discover, as I can tell you first-hand that truly loving something, be it a hobby or a person, is more powerful than any prescription. When you have 20 minutes, take a listen to this album I’ve created with heart and soul, exploring the concepts of hope, depression, perspective, love, and finding our place in the universe.”

Sunny Mac has so far garnered more than a million streams on Spotify, with over 200,000 of those for ‘Celestial Swing’ alone. In celebration of this milestone, Sunny released a stand-alone single, ‘Profit Prophet’.

Sunny is nothing if not ambitious. His debut music video, for his track, ‘Freedom’, was also directed and edited by him, and so far has just short of 80,000 views. He’s currently working on 3 full-length albums simultaneously, with the first of these, ‘Rabbit Whole’, set for release in the summer of 2018. The album has a distinct jazz influence, with its focus on live instrumentation, emphasising the percussion and piano melodies. Lead single, ‘The Message’, was dropped in June 2017, and was inspired by the determination of someone once lost in a lucid dream of his idealistic life, whose mission is now to hone in on that potential, and transform it into a reality. He’s already lined up the next two releases from the album: ‘High On Life’, and ‘Colossus’, will be out in the next few months leading up to the summer.

Sunny Mac is also working hard for charity, and in collaboration with the Los Angeles based organisation, ‘Peace & Luck’, he designed his own merch logo, and his ‘Brighter Days’ hats with this design were released on World Mental Health Day 2o17, October 10. The hats are for sale exlusively on Peace & Luck’s website, with 25% of all proceeds going to help fund the Canadian Charity, ‘Right To Play’. Peace & Luck had this to say about the collab:

“Brighten your day today and a child’s future tomorrow. As Peace & Luck’s inaugural project, we’ve partnered with Canadian recording artist and social activist Sunny Mac to design his first official piece of charitable merchandise. The message behind this collaboration was heavily inspired by Sunny’s 2016 breakout single “Freedom”, which embodies the positivity and optimism we hold toward the future here at PAL. Symbolic of the light of tomorrow promising brighter days ahead, the signature sun logo rounds out this beautiful, minimalistic cap, available in 7 eye-catching color schemes. 25% of all proceeds support the Canadian charity Right to Play, founded in Sunny’s hometown of Toronto, inspiring hope in children all around the world with social activities designed to educate in health and build peaceful communities.”

Sunny Mac’s hopes for 2018 are to expand his horizons beyond North America, and to travel around the world, in particular to visit Japan and Australia, as well as the rest of Asia, and Europe. Eventually he hopes to move to Los Angeles, but most of all, he wants to meet along the way other passionate and dedicated artists, to develop new connections to help him take the next big step in his career. With such ambition, drive, and determination, it’s pretty sure that he’s going to achieve it all.
