‘Christmas Time In The City’, as well as the B-side, a cover of Charles Brown’s ‘Please Come Home For Christmas’, is the seasonal follow-up to Jarrod Dickenson’s critically acclaimed album, ‘Ready The Horses’, which was released in September.
The songs were recorded at SonyTree Studios in Nashville, where he played live with his full band. He used in the video the iconic image of New York City during winter time. Says Jarrod,
“It’s an incredible place year around, but during the Christmas season it is nothing short of magical. The entire city is dressed up in lights and wreaths. Buskers in the subway and on the street corners are singing holiday classics. There’s an excitement in the air that’s shared by locals and tourists alike. You can’t help but smile as you walk down the streets. It’s without question my favourite time of year.”
The choice of B-side was easy for Jarrod, whose favourite Christmas classic was Charles Brown’s ‘Please Come Home For Christmas’, which he’d wanted to cover for years.
“the original version by Charles Brown is one of the best vocal performances I’ve ever heard. So smooth and so soulful, and all of us in the studio had such a blast laying it down. Nothing warms the soul quite like a little Christmas blues.”
Originally from Waco, Texas, but now based in Nashville and Brooklyn, Jarrod Dickenson spends most of his time on the road, with his own brand of soulful Americana wowing audiences around the world. His mature songwriting belies the fact that ‘Ready The Horses’ was only his second album, and is testament to his skill. Jarrod’s laid back writing style is reminscent of Gram Parsons, with his vocals compared to a young Johnny Cash, and Tom Waits.
