Elena Andujar – ‘Flamenco in Time’

The new release, ‘Flamenco In Time’, from Elena Andujar, calls to attention the endangered musical style of Flamenco.

Raised in an atmosphere where flamenco was a way of life, Elena’s childhood was infused with the music, singing, and of course, dance of these traditions. Elena, always an artist ahead of her time, builds on her roots and mixes flamenco elements into dance music, complete with jamming house-style club mixes. The track introduces the talented young percussionist, singer and songwriter, Antonio Andujar, as well as the producer and director debut of MyMy Lady G, also known as the House vocalist, composer and poet, MadyY “Pepper” Gomez.

Born in Sevilla, Elena started studying dance at the age of 10, and by 20 she’d graduated in Classical Spanish dance. She startered performing professionally with Antonio Canales on tour in Japan in 1990, with Ketama, but she soon became known as a flamenco singer, when Joaquín Cortés asked her to sing in his shows in Cibayi in 1993, and Pasión Gitana the following year. Elena moved onto performances with her group in Spanish flamenco clubs including La Trocha in Seville, Café de Chinitas, and Suristán in Madrid, Tablao de Carmen in Barcelona, and Zambra in Alicante. She’s also sung and danced in the United States and across Europe, and made her film debut in Taylor Hackford’s, ‘The Devil’s Advocate’, where she danced with Al Pacino. She appeared in Mike Figgs’ documentary, ‘Flamenco Women’, seen on VPRO in The Netherlands, and Channel 4 in the UK.

Elena Andujar is currently the director of her own flamenco school in Madrid, where classes are given in all aspects of flamenco, as well as singing and dance.

The eight track album, ‘Flamenco In Time’ is released through the Wake Up! Music Group.
