Hard Working Class Heroes Conference 2017 – 28-30 September

Hard Working Class Hereos 2017 will open on Thursday, September 28th with a targeted networking event in The Chocolate Factory. This will give international delegates an opportunity to meet with their Irish counterparts and the artists attending the HWCH Music Conference.

The night will feature two keynote interviews by journalist Jim Carroll with PIXIES manager, Richard Jones and The New Yorker’s John Seabrook, author of ‘The Song Machine: Inside the Hit Factory’.The weekend will see a mixture of workshops, discussions and panels featuring some of the most influential industry insiders from around the globe. With 40 international industry delegates due to attend the conference along with many of the major players in the Irish music industry, the HWCH Music Conference is Ireland’s largest gathering of bookers, labels, managers, music supervisors, radio folk and journalists from around the world and here at home.

As well as the aforementioned opening night keynotes, there are lots of highlights across the weekend including keynotes with Rough Trade Records boss, Geoff Travis, about the art of finding and developing talent, and RTÉ’s Ian Wilson in honour of his enormous contribution to Irish music. Ticket touting has been a major grievance for gig-goers throughout the year with attention firmly on websites like Seatwave and Get Me In. The issue will be dissected, and it will be asked what can be done to stop upselling and why are so many in the live music industry not prepared to tackle the problem?

Speaking at the conference will be artists Conor Adams (All Tvvins), Saoirse Duane (Wyvern Lingo) and Marcus Lambkin (Shit Robot) in the annual Artists Talk Back panel and there will be discussion about the artist dream team with the managers, PR pros and bookers who work with The XX, The National, Years & Years and Andrew Weatherall. Nialler9 will host a discussion on where music journalism is at in 2017 with Ryan Leas, features writer at Sterogum, Sean Adams (Drowned in Sound), Hilary Saunders (Paste Magazine) and Phil Harrison (The Guardian/The Quietus).

There will be a must attend masterclass on artist management from Claire Southwick and Fiona McGugan of MMF UK, the world’s largest professional body of artist managers. Also there will be focusing on sync with some of the leading film and TV music supervisors and delegates will hear from BBC Radio 1’s Phil Taggart, 2FM’s Alan Swan, Today FM’s Brian Adams and Sinead Troy of Yangaroo Music on the why and how of radio. Click here for a full rundown of all the conference events taking place across the weekend.
