Amber Run To Release Acoustic EP ‘Alaska’ Ahead Of UK/Eire Tour

Nottingham’s Amber Run will release a new digital acoustic EP, ‘Alaska’, on 22 September, ahead of their Autumn UK and Irish tour that month.

The quartet, who met while studying at the University Of Nottingham, have released two albums, ‘5am’, in 2015, and ‘For A Moment I Was Lost’, in February this year. ‘Alaska’ is their fourth EP, following ‘Noah’, ‘Spark’, and ‘Pilot’, which were all released in 2014.

The ‘Alaska’ EP includes four songs, two from ‘For A Moment, I Was Lost’, and two cover tracks. The first to be released is the title track, ‘Alaska’, a cover of the song from Maggie Rogers’ album, ‘Now That The Light Is Fading‘.

The ‘Alaska’ EP is a breath of fresh air. There’s a lovely and unexpected take on Jackie Wilson’s ‘(Your Love Keeps Lifting Me) Higher And Higher’, which adapts itself very well to Amber Run’s acoustic folk treatment and close harmonies. ‘Alaska’ is similarly stunning in its stripped back purity; while Maggie Rogers’ original is upbeat and energetic – a summer anthem even – in the hands of Amber Run it becomes a fireside ballad. ‘Fickle Game’ and ‘No Answers’, the tracks from their sophomore album are simple and sweet: although comparisons are easily made to Kodaline, ‘Fickle Game’ especially calls to mind the music of artists such as The Housemartins, and even Oasis.

Amber Run had a great a run of shows in February, including a sold-out hometown performance at Nottingham’s Rock City, and the 2,300 capacity Kentish Town Forum, in London, plus some huge European festivals (Pinkpop in The Netherlands, and Hurricane/Southside in Germany). The band is heading out on the road once again, taking in 12 dates across the UK and Ireland.

Tickets for Amber Run’s Autumn Tour are now on sale through Music Glue, apart from Dublin, where they are available from Whelans.
