It never rains but it pours from Kesha’s new album ‘Rainbow’, with the follow up to the first release from her pot of gold, ‘Woman’. Kesha released ‘Praying’ earlier this month.
‘Woman’ is Kesha through and through, with her attitude and lyrics reminding us just what we’ve been missing since her last music came out way back in 2013. The song, which includes lyrics such as “Don’t buy me a drink, I make my money. Don’t touch my weave, don’t call me honey.” are about empowerment of women, and detail a night out with girlfriends and the taunts she throws at those who would try to stop her fun.
‘Woman’ was co-written by Kesha with Drew Pearson and Wrabel, and also produced by Pearson, as well as Brody Brown. The track was recorded at Brooklyn’s Daptone Records, and features a guest appearance by The Dap-Kings horn section and taps into the wild spirit she feels , in kinship with favourite artists, such as Iggy Pop, The Rolling Stones, Dolly Parton, and James Brown, among others.
‘Woman’ is accompanied by a video which was directed by Kesha and her brother, Lagan Sebert.
Kesha has written an essay for Rolling Stone in which she says she’s discovered a new kind of confidence which she’s taken into the studio after her 2016 tour with her live band, The Creepies. The singer and her band performed straight-up rock shows, with no backing tracks or dancers, meaning that:
“I had to rise to the occasion and take control of my voice and in the process I gained a lot of confidence in my vocal ability I’ve never had before.”
