Six Quick Questions With Eva

Originally from Lincoln, Nebraska, Eva moved with her family at a young age to Northern California. She grew up listening to her parents’ country music and classic rock records, before developing her own taste for strong female vocalists such as Madonna, Christina Aguilera, and Britney Spears.

Eva released her first single, ‘Not My Daddy’ in 2011, featuring rapper Gucci Mane. The success of this track led her to being invited to perform support for Nas, as well as Alicia Keys. She followed up this single with ‘Ashes’, then ‘Body On Mine’, which featured Tyga. The latter was a hit on SiriusXM. ‘Trapped’, written by Poo Bear produced by JR Rotem, famous for working with Rihanna, and Britney Spears, was released in 2014. Now Eva has recorded even more music, with her latest song, ‘Bad For Us’, “about a toxic relationship that you know is bad but you can’t get yourself to walk away.”

We caught up with Eva and asked her Six Quick Questions.

EP: What’s the Eva story – how long have you been making music, how did you get into it?

E: I’ve loved performing ever since I was little. I liked being in the spotlight and entertaining others. I grew up participating in various shows and choirs. Eventually when I graduated high school I took my aspirations to Los Angeles to pursue music more seriously because I knew that’s all I wanted to do.

EP: You’ve said your most recent single, ‘Bad For Us’, is about a toxic relationship that you know is bad but you can’t get yourself to walk away. Is this based on actual events, and if so, do you want to tell us about it?

E: Bad For Us doesn’t refer to a specific situation from my past but it can relate to many kinds of personal relationships we’ve all been through. Whether its a boyfriend/girlfriend, parent, friendship, I think everyone has some experience like that. A good example from my life- I did have a long term boyfriend from high school and I wouldn’t say our relationship was “toxic” but I knew deep down that it should have ended sooner, I was just so nervous and scared of the unknown to break it off earlier on. We were young and very codependent on each other, but eventually I gained the courage to end the relationship. It was hard but I know it was the best decision in the long run, I wished I had gone through with it sooner!

EP: Dance music is huge right now! What do you think is the reason for this, and what do you think the next big thing will be to hit music?

E: I think dance music is such a big movement because its fun and enjoyable for everyone! People like to dance and have a good time, especially with music festivals being such a big thing these days, its the obvious choice! The next big thing in music… ME!! haha just kidding…I’ll have to check my crystal ball when I get home!

EP: Who are your influences in life, and music? And what artists inspire you most?

E: Some of my favourite artists who I draw inspiration from are Lady Gaga, Beyonce, Demi Lovato, Britney Spears (of course), and Bruno Mars. I also love rock and roll, classics like AC/DC and Queen are some favs! Sublime has always been one of my favorite bands. I love listening to a little bit of everything and I take ideas or inspiration from it all.

EP: You’ve opened for Alicia Keys, and Nas – who else would you love to open for, and who would be your dream act opening for you?

E: I’ve gotten to open for some really cool people over the years! Alicia Keys was definitely a highlight. Opening for Gaga or Beyonce would be the ultimate honor for me personally since they are my favs! As far as someone opening for me one day, I think I’d like to find some awesome newer talent to give that opportunity.

EP: This is our favourite question we ask most artists: what question do you wish someone would ask you in an interview but nobody ever does?

E: Favourite brand of underwear! Victoria’s Secret 5 for $25 undies!!!
