Released on November 4 and including a power-packed cover of Iggy Pop’s ‘Lust For Life’, New York City-based writer, singer/songwriter and theatre artist Phoebe Nir’s debut EP, ‘Side Hustle’ is fast and furious.

Writer Phoebe graduated from Brown University in 2014 with a degree in Writing for Performance. She’s been received in the White House by Barack Obama as a Presidential Scholar of the Arts in Writing, and was nominated for the Pushcart Prize for Literary Fiction. She’s had her musical theatre work showcased in NYC at Joe’s Pub, Feinstein’s 54 Below, and the BMI Lehman Engel Musical Theater Workshop. Phoebe is also currently developing with composer Tomás Doncker, ‘Diana & Navy & The Golden Tooth’, a musical adventure trilogy.

Released on True Groove Records, ‘Side Hustle’ is a funky, sixties style EP, totally in keeping with Phoebe’s musical theatre background, and will appeal to fans of that genre. Lyrically complex, with all tracks apart from ‘Lust For Life’ written by Nir herself, the EP also features a glorious horn arrangement by Mac Gollehon, as well as guest vocals from True Groove Records legend, Charlie Funk.

Stand out tracks on an EP that is filled with them would have to be opener ‘Lust For Life’ – Phoebe channels Iggy while giving the song a certain theatrical edge – even more than was there already; and title track, ‘Side Hustle’, whose horns and funky beat give the song a real NYC vibe.

Phoebe Nir will be opening for No Wave icons James Chance & The Contortions at the Bowery Electric on November 10th as a featured member of the True Groove All Stars.

‘Side Hustle’ is available to download from iTunes and stream on Spotify. Find out more about Phoebe on her official website, and check out True Groove Records.
