We interviewed Raffael Schieber aka DrawnSword back in August about his life, music and his EP, ‘Still Too Few’. Now he’s back and has a new EP, ‘Ghost’, with the first track to be released, the reflective, ‘Mirrors’.

DrawnSword has refined his craft, with his HipHop tighter and funkier, and his electronica more crisp. He’s also worked on the production, making it bigger, as well as the songwriting, which is much more complex.

His latest single, the first from his new EP, ‘Mirrors’ is inspired by his bartending days, and reflects on how so many people waste away their potential, with drinking and drug taking so deeply ingrained in our culture as a means to “escape” from reality.

DrawnSword moved to London about eight years ago in order to take his music one step further than he’d previously been able to in his hometown of Munich. He spent the first five years working in bars, trying to find his feet and battling mental illness. After losing touch with music for a while, he rediscovered his love about three years ago, and started writing again and hasn’t looked back since.

About the song’s inspiration, DrawnSword says,

“I love going to clubs and bars or any public place with a high concentration of humans for that matter and just watch people, but there’s a certain honesty to it when they’re off their tits”.

Accompanied by a video directed by Leif Johnson, which cleverly makes use of mirroring and other special effects, the song unites Indie, HipHop and electronica, while at the same time adding some touches of funk and disco.

We’ll bring you our review of ‘Ghost’ over the coming week. Meanwhile here is the video for ‘Mirrors’:
