From Perth, Western Australia, described as the most remote city on earth, comes rock/rap band Roses For Ghosts with the video for their new song, ‘Beauty’s Sweetest Dress’.

The band, comprising Stevie Rain on vox, Jake Mullineaux on guitar, Montana on drums and Shardz on bass, cite artists as diverse as Kanye West, Eminem, and Rage Against The Machine as among their influences, but their darkly earnest lyrics set against a humorous video suggest that Blink-182 might also have had a role to play in the formation of their sound.

The video for ‘Beauty’s Sweetest Dress’ is darkly humorous, with the band cross-dressing to portray a story of a monster pursuing a beauty in her sweetest dress, kidnapping her, and tying her to the dining table in preparation to kill and eat her. There is another hapless prisoner also caught up in preparation for her own demise. Fortunately both are rescued by “1800-WIZARD” who loosens their bonds, and turns the monster into a dog. The video softens the much darker lyrics, which tell of a girl chased, captured, and eventually killed by a man – a monster.

The video is beautifully filmed in a very simplistic manner, with most of the action happening between an ordinary suburban house and parkland. Excellent use of colour grading and different focal lengths make this a video – and a song – worth repeating.
