Social Media Superstar Kyla Imani Releases New ‘Sweet Tea’ EP

Kyla Imani 1

At only 14, Kyla Imani has had her fair share of fame already. She recreated Beyoncé’s ‘7/11’ video, shot by shot, while recording and uploading her own take on the song.

The video won Kyla plaudits from the likes of MTV, who praised her ingenuity and imagination, BET, who called her a rising star with an extremely promising future, and the ‘Hello Beautiful’ website, who said that the ‘7/11’ remake video proved that she was already a force to be reckoned with. The video went viral, and still has people talking, a year and over 30 million social media views later.

Now Kyla is back, and showing that her imaginative take on ‘7/11’ wasn’t just a one off. With her ‘Sweet Tea Visual EP’, she’s taken a unique turn and issued an EP that embeds 5 music videos in what is essentially a mini movie – 24 minutes of Kayla doing what the average girl her ages does: performing, going to school, playing games at sleepovers, and going to the park with her bright pink Fender strung over her shoulder. She once again harks back to Beyoncé, by talking through the connective parts in the video she emulates Queen Bey in ‘Lemonade’: speaking to the viewer about life, her challenges, and her determination to be heard.

What is clear about Kyla is that her early fame hasn’t gone to her head. Rather she’s using it to give herself, and girls her own age, a voice, letting it be known that it’s okay to be yourself.
