Essential Covers: Carolyn Miller & Mikel James – ‘Wildest Dreams’/’What Do You Mean’ (Taylor Swift/Justin Bieber Mashup Cover)

Essential Covers

We were contacted by Carolyn Miller the other day telling us about the cover she’d made with Mikel James. It’s a beautiful acoustic mashup of Taylor Swift’s song, ‘Wildest Dreams’, sung by Carolyn, and Justin Bieber’s ‘What Do You Mean’ (sung by Mikel), while standing on a New York street. The duo are accompanied by Alex Desalvo on guitar, and Justin Scheidling, on Cajon box drum.

The mashup has been arranged beautifully – it’s as if the two songs were meant to be sung together. You’ll never listen to them the same way again. Unsurprisingly it’s so far had nearly 4000 views since it was uploaded to YouTube on July 5.

Carolyn Miller was born and raised on Long Island, New York, and has had a long fascination with the arts, starting from the age of 5, watching ‘Beauty & The Beast’, on Broadway. She knew from 8 years old that she wanted to work professionally, and throughout her teens she appeared on stage, in national commercials, recorded voiceovers, and booked roles on shows such as “Law & Order: SVU” and in the film “DareDevil” (starring Ben Affleck).

Carolyn attended the prestigious Boston Conservatory, on a scholarship, and graduated in 2011 with distinction, receiving her BFA in Musical Theatre, with an emphasis on Directing. While still at the Conservatory, Carolyn featured in many stage productions, including her favourite, Kurt Weill’s ‘One Touch Of Venus’, in which she performed the title role of Venus. She featured as guest performer at the Boston Gay Men’s Chorus’ 25th Annual Benefit Concert, where she sang Wicked’s ‘Defying Gravity’, to an audience in a 1600 seat theatre.

Carolyn has lent her voice to national advertisement campaigns including Pepsi, and the ‘Don’t Text And Drive’ public service announcements. She most recently narrated 52 episodes for the children’s cartoon, ‘Zula Patrol’, on PBS.

Carolyn will be releasing her debut EP, ‘Unbreakable’, later this year. You can find out more about Carolyn online on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and her official website.
