Lonely Soup Day Release ‘Fairground Accident’

Lonely Soup Day 2

From Perth, Western Australia, come Lonely Soup Day, aka husband and wife duo Chris Kenworthy and Molly Kerr. The pair have been making music for the past decade separately, but once they met and started creating together they realised they could finally make something they liked. Both actors, they’ve taken what they’ve learned from that field and incorporated it into their music, by way of improvisation.

Lonely Soup Day take their inspiration from nineties acts such as Frenté, The Breeders and the Cranberries, as well as contemporary artists like Lisa Mitchell, Missy Higgins and The Jezebels. They blend this together with dreamy folk-pop and punchy indie-rock, resulting in something quite unique.

Chris records and produces all their music, with the process from initial demo recordings to the final product potentially taking years as he slowly pieces tracks together by adding additional layers and overdubs as they go. Chris explains,

“We record everything. Every time I pick up the guitar, a recording device is switched on and we record what I come up with. If something sounds good, Molly starts singing – just nonsense. We then listen back to it, and keep recording these non-demos while sitting on the couch.”

Both Molly and Chris have a background in the arts, with Molly acting for more than 14 years, and having appeared in several short films, five music videos, and three feature films, as well as on the stage. Christopher is the author of twelve books, including two novels. For fourteen years he directed many commercial and creative productions, including a feature film. Like Molly, he’s also appeared on the stage.

Lonely Soup Day have recently released ‘Fairground Accident’, an album of intriguing and experimental pop music. Lead track, ‘Vancouver’, is accompanied by a video shot mostly on location. It’s a dreamy, ethereal song, with Molly’s sweet voice the perfect complement to Christopher’s guitar.
