The Essential Weekly Playlist of: Kristy Osmunson

Kristy Osmunson is one half, with Jon Stone, of the duo American Young. Formerly of Bombshel, she moved to Nashville, Tennessee in early 2002, where she formed the band Bombshel, with lead singer Buffy “Buf” Lawson.

With Bomshel, the talented singer songwriter and fiddle player released one album and several EPs over a period of about seven years and a few band member changes before they finally split up. Kristy then formed  American Young with Jon, with whom she had previously collaborated on songwriting projects for the likes of Kenny Chesney, Rascal Flatts, Blake Shelton and Lee Brice. Brice produced their first single, ‘Love Is War’.

With that sort of musical background, any that Kristy couldn’t live without is bound to be interesting. Here’s her Essential Playlist.

Kristy Osmunson

Beyoncé – ‘If I Were A Boy’

She’s the queen.  She always slam dunks her work.  It’s completely unapologetic.  The melodic information is stupendous.

Taylor Swift – ‘Wildest Dreams’

I can’t get enough of this record. She just does it better.  She’s such a diva goddess.

Adele – ‘Hello’

Yeah.  Just another level.  I sometimes wonder what planet she came from.  That girl just gets it done.

Amy Winehouse – ‘Rehab’

Been told the same thing by my dad ;). Love this song.  She’s an icon.

Dolly Parton/Whitney Houston – ‘I Will Always Love You’

Both Dolly and Whitney. Depends if you are saying goodbye to a friend or lover. Two different emotions but equally as powerful.

Mariah Carey – ‘Hero’

Just the greatest song, by the greatest vocalist.  Just a moment in time that will never be duplicated.

Patsy Cline – ‘Crazy’

There is that one perfect moment when I felt this song and it became so real it set me on the path to self love. It was a moment of truth in life for me.

Elle King – ‘America’s Sweetheart’

It’s my theme song.  As a Canadian living in Nashville… love this song.  It’s my life (Other than the back tattoos…That’s happening when we get to London).

Ellie Goulding – ‘Lights’

How could you not.  She’s bulletproof. And clearly out to write her own game.  Love love love.  One hundred percent badass.

Etta James – ‘At Last’

I was at her final concert in Nashville.  It changed my life forever.  She is timeless.
