Arizona blues/rock trio, Loveless Effect have released their debut self-titled EP with six outstanding blues inspired songs including guest performances from guitarist Eric Johnson and drummer Kenny Aronoff. Loveless Effect’s shared influences and dedication to songwriting have propelled them to the top of their game, boasting a unique blend of styles and some finger licking good guitar skills.

The new EP can’t be narrowed down to any one influence as it seems to stray from various styles of blues and classic rock. ‘Black Smoke Rising’ has a remarkable finger picked guitar with some great dynamics from the drums and guitar leads. The song has a very strong crescendo toward the end that leads you to believe the song is over, and then it suddenly jumps into a quick bluegrass style jam that has great energy to finish out the track.

‘How Do You Feel Now’ is another song on the EP with great energy that builds strong emotionally with the lyric part and also features the guitar workings of Eric Johnson. The song has a driving verse that stays upbeat and is constantly moving which makes the tempo change in the chorus more pronounced. The end has a great finish with dynamic guitar soloing and the gritty rock voice of Seth Loveless.

‘Misunderstood’ brings the mood back down on the album with a very inspiring ballad that reminds me a lot of Bruce Springsteen. The music has that country hometown feel and the lyrics tell a story that you can envision in your head as you listen through the changes.

‘Standing In The Rain’ is a beautifully finger picked song that stays mellow and has a great upfront presence with wonderfully written lyrics. The songs guitar style can closely be compared to the guitar styles of Chet Atkins which has been a strong influence on Seth throughout his childhood.

‘Better Off Dead’ has a bluesy finger picked guitar riff that sets the mood and then bursts into some intense dynamic instrumentation and drumming. The mood in the verse is very driving just like ‘How Do You Feel Now’ and has distinct changes into the chorus parts which are very effective for the dynamics and style of Loveless Effect.

‘Street Corner Jim’ is a fun jammy blues song that features guest musician Scott Page. Â The lyrics are light, the music is upbeat, and the mood is “let’s dance and have a good time.”

Loveless Effect definitely has a promising future to look forward to as they are already astonishing songwriters and performers.
