The Essential Weekly Playlist of: Siobhán Shiels

THE ESSENTIAL WEEKLY PLAYLIST

We recently interviewed Siobhán Shiels from Irish band, Great White Lies, and featured their song, ‘Give Anything’ on our Essential Advent Calendar. Now it’s Siobhán’s turn to give us her Essential Weekly Playlist.

Great White Lies 2

Camille – ‘Ta Douleur’

First song which drew me into the music of Camille this live version is spectacular.

Camille - Ta Douleur (TARATATA - Juin 2005)

Basement Jaxx – ‘Do Your Thing’

My go to happy tune. If I wanna feel uplifted or dance around this is my first choice.

Arvo Pärt – ‘Speigel im Spegiel’

Beautiful.

Arvo Pärt- Spiegel im Spiegel

Blur – ‘The Universal’

I adored Blur throughout my teens and they’ve been the band I’ve stuck with throughout my life. This tune takes me right back to my teenage bedroom.

Mark Ronson ft Mystikal – ‘Feel Right’

A more recent creation and it just makes me so happy. You need to watch the video to fully appreciate the song. The kid in this is amazing and when he drops the mic, I wish it was me.

GO Team – ‘Ladyflash’

Dancing and loving the summer. This band kinda disappeared but their glorious tuneage lives on.

Nina Simone – ‘Sinnerman’

I love this, the repetitiveness is sublime and here voice is so powerful and evocative.

Randy Newman – ‘Short People’

I really wanted to include Randy Newman, he’s just sublime. I found it incredibly difficult to pick one so went with the best example of his brilliant blend of humour and political satire. Check all his stuff out.
