Essential Advent Calendar: LeeSun – ‘We’re All Made Of Stars’

advent calendar 8

‘We’re All Made Of Stars’, from Leeds-based artist LeeSun, might seem an unusual choice, but it’s day 7 on our Essential Advent Calendar.

On the night of 9th October, Leeds-based artist LeeSun went to bed feeling unwell. She awoke at midnight and We’re All Made Of Stars was already in her head. A few days later, the Canadian-Korean-British songwriter recorded the song at Eiger Studios. Speaking about the song she says,

“it is a simple expression of both profound loneliness and deep interconnectedness between all people.”

It’s a magical, ethereal song, mystical even: gorgeous in its simplicity and stripped-backness. The childlike quality of LeeSun’s voice adds even more to this effect.

LeeSun’s debut album, ‘Prime’, from 2011, has been played on BBC Radio 6 (Tom Robinson is a huge fan – and incidentally ‘We’re All Made Of Stars’ has just made the final 25 tracks of Tom’s Freshnet Listening Post – from a shortlist of 174). Additionally her music has been played on BBC Leeds West Yorkshire, as well as having exposure on Channel 4’s Hollyoaks.

You can buy ‘We’re All Made Of Stars’ from LeeSun’s Bandcamp site. Find LeeSun on Twitter and Facebook, and check out her blog.
