Essential Advent Calendar: Carnaby Street – ‘Love Will Be The Answer (Happy Christmas)’

advent calendar 16

The 15th day of our Essential Advent Calendar and it’s ‘Love Will Be The Answer (Happy Christmas)’, recorded by Carnaby Street.

Carnaby Street 1

Picture the scene: Cirencester, summer time. One evening Dean Hill (one of the organisers of Phoenix Music Festival, and presenter of Rock The Romans, on Corinium Radio Cotswolds) and Gianni Frezza (bespoke guitar maker and crafter of very fine furniture for royalty) met up by chance and through their conversation began a journey towards Christmas.

Gianni knew some of the primary cast members of ‘Let It Be’, a hit West End musical about The Beatles and their music. He played Dean some demos of original music the cast had recorded. Dean commented that “it sounded like the Beatles reformed”.

One of the songs in particular, ‘Love Will Be The Answer’ had great potential, with lyrics sounding particularly appropriate for Christmas, with a festive vibe. Dean wrote a Yuletide version of the chorus, and from there arranged a meeting with Manny Angeletti, who played Paul McCartney in the show. After agreeing that the song would be a great idea, Gianni and Manny returned to their home region of Civita Castellana, Rome, to record a special version of the song – featuring many of the best musicians in Europe – resulting in ‘Love Will Be The Answer (Happy Christmas)’/‘Per Natale Resta Qui’.

Finally, the song did a complete circle and returned to the Cotswolds, near Cirencester, where it was mastered by Sonic Genius James at Steve Winwood’s studios.

‘Love Will Be The Answer (Happy Christmas)’ is available on iTunes and Amazon.
