Lemonhaze ‘Feel’ Familiar

Lemonhaze 5

Scottish Indie/Rock band Lemonhaze formed in 2013. Featuring Gerald Doran (vox, guitar, percussion), Steven Hillcoat (guitar, vox, synth), Jon Adams on bass and vocals, and Jamie McLachlan playing drums and percussion, their music blends guitar, electronica, three part harmonies and pleasantly piqant lyrics. The result is a sonic miscellany of sound – they do it well.

2015 has been kind to the band, seeing them perform in some of the country’s top venues, including King Tuts Wah Wah Hut in Glasgow, Oran Mór, and Manchester Academy – just to name a few.

‘Feel’ is the definitive Lemonhaze sound. Accompanied by a psych trance video it’s a great song with an underlying message about being yourself. We asked what the elephant in the video symbolised:

“The video is about escapism, how it takes something surreal to break mundane life and in the end there was no masked elephant – just someone who wanted to break his mundane life and dance and be free :)”

Singer Gerald Doran said of the song,

“For the vocals on this track I tried to channel my innermost feelings towards heartache and social frustration. Musically the band’s intentions for ‘Feel’ were to take the listener on a musical journey. Likened to an arduous climb up a cliff face from the opening chords, up until the Ibiza-esqe breakdown. From then on, the track powers ahead like a freight train in the night.”

You can hear it in the song – “I rely on your soul to make me feel” – in the end though, the realisation comes through that we don’t need to rely on anyone.

‘Feel’ is very catchy: strong soaring guitar hooks pull you in, and continue to keep you aloft, underpinning the song, while the vocals soar in and out. Quite a lovely, well crafted and produced song.

Recorded by Colin Cameron at Standing Stone Studios, and mastered by Philip Feenan at The Lane Mastering, in Glasgow, the single was launched with a headline show at The Bungalow, Paisley, on the 7th of November. Lemonhaze have dates coming up later this month in Perth and Kilmarnock – find further information on their website. You can also find Lemonhaze on Twitter, Facebook, and Google +.

‘Feel’ is available to download on iTunes and Amazon. You can stream Lemonhaze’s music on Spotify.
