Seeing India Electric Co. Through ‘Eyes And Tears’

India Electric Co 1

India Electric Co. describe themselves as ‘sometimes folk, sometimes not’. One thing is for sure, they’re always very talented.

Currently touring with Midge Ure as his support act and band on his ‘Breathe Again’ tour, India Electric Co. comprise Cole Stacey and Joseph O’Keefe.

India Electric Co. released their debut album in March this year. ‘The Girl I Left Behind Me’, the culmination of a year’s writing and recording, draws on a theme of transience. The album explores non-places: a sense of not belonging; the highs and lows of being on the fringes of society, and all the raw emotions associated with that.

Recorded in a Devonshire barn, the album’s acoustics retain something of its atmosphere. India Electric Co. use traditional instruments (including accordions, pianos, 16 part string arrangements and many hand made percussion sections) and the album is a fresh take on traditional styles and themes. Their sound travels through Eastern Europe, gypsy jazz and Irish reels – coming to land somewhere a combination of them all – quirky, ecclectic – even eccentric – but always gorgeous, lush, and eminently listenable.
My favourite song, ‘My Friends Are Rich’, contains the album title in its lyrics, and reminds me of the folk music I grew up with in Australia, also strongly influenced by Irish traditional music.
India Electric Co. can be found online on Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, and their website. ‘The Girl I Left Behind Me’ is available on iTunes and Amazon. Currently on tour with Midge Ure, you cna find out details as to where they’re performing on their website.
We leave you with ‘Eyes and Tears’ – a beautiful song and a lovely video:
