Introducing: Fiction Peaks

Fiction Peaks1

Beginning in early 2013, Fiction Peaks began refining their sound after playing some shows in their home town of Dublin, and around the rest of Ireland. Describing themselves as Alternative/Electronic/Shoegaze, Fiction Peaks use effects boxes, drum machines and synthesisers, as well as encorporating strings and spoken word on some tracks and live performances. The band members are Joey Doyle on Vox, Guitar and Sampler; Cillian Kenny on Bass Guitar and Trumpet, Barry Lyons on Vocals and Synth, and Dan Doherty on Drums and Percussion.

Fiction Peaks’ self-titled EP overall reminds us of Oasis, Blur and even The Beatles. ‘Dye Is Cast’ has a nice thumping backbeat tying in all the other elements, while ‘Future In Replay’ has elements of Kodaline about it, while ‘Document Dissent’, a slower-paced song than the first two, could very easily have been an Oasis song. ‘Gun For Hire’ takes out the EP with a melancholy quality – the perfect ending song. Swirls of strings and horns, accompanying lush vocal harmonies, it’s soothing and sensual. ‘Order from chaos – the lunatics in charge”.

Fiction Peaks will be performing on Saturday 5 September at 10pm in the Oxjam Tent at Electric Picnic, Stradbally Hall in Stradbally, County Laois, Ireland. You can find them online on Twitter, Facebook, Soundcloud and Youtube. Their self-titled EP is available as a free download on their Bandcamp page.
