Evering – The Good Ship, Kilburn 21/4/2015

We introduced you to Evering a couple of weeks back, the Scottish duo, Dawn Coulshed and Chris Yendell, who first met in Edinburgh last year and later met up in London and decided to form a collaboration.

Last night we had the pleasure of their company at The Good Ship, a great music venue in Kilburn, North West London. Accompanied by their (also Scottish) drummer, they led us through a number of songs both haunting and passionate, with strong harmonies and gifted instrumentals. Highlights included the gorgeous “Have No Fear” and title track from their upcoming EP, “Running in Circles”.

Chris and Dawn make a perfect team, each coming forward and falling back when required, with some songs having piano-led vocals, and others guitar led. Dawn commented that the background photo was taken in her Scottish home town, and in listening to the songs you could easily see how much that life has influenced Evering’s writing.

Both lyrically and musically, Evering are top notch. Lines such as, “Whatever you want, I’ll find” stood out, as well as the pure emotion and feeling with which the very obviously talented artists played their instruments. Dawn’s piano was captivating – so much so that we sat watching her and were distracted from making notes…ah well! Chatting to Chris and Dawn after the show, we were taken by how humble they were, and would not hesitate seeing them live another time.

Evering next perform in London on 23 May at The Cavendish Arms, Stockwell. Tickets are available here. Be sure to check out “Running In Circles” when it comes out on May 18. Find Evering on Twitter, Facebook, Soundcloud, and their website.
